SunshiNZ is nestled near the beach of Hokitika, on the Wild Westcoast of the South Island, which is well known for its annual “Wildfoods Festival Weekend” held in early march. The Festival attracts a mega 20,000 people – a huge increase from the general 4,500 population. The Driftwood and Sands Competition is also a fun week of creation and workshops, which attracts people from all walks of life. People are given the beach and its contents, to create an imaginative sculpture of driftwood…stones…flax and even washed up gumboots! This event is held in early/mid January.
